All-inclusive approach

The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015), came into force on 6 April 2015. The CDM regulations apply to all building and construction work and includes new build, demolition, refurbishment, extensions, conversions, repair, and maintenance.

Projects with more than one contractor must have a Principal Designer and a Principal Contractor appointed.

We understand that the role of the Principal Designer is a hugely important role in the process and is something that we undertake with the highest level of care. Our approach to the role as your Principal Designer is therefore both comprehensive and all-inclusive.

Services Offered

Pre Construction

  • Initial consultation/advice to the client including help collating pre-construction information
  • Advise client on the competency of designers/contractors
  • Notification to the HSE of the project (F10)
  • Preparation of design stage pre-construction information for contractors for tendering purposes and to aid the development of the Construction Phase Plan
  • Design and site risk assessment prior to construction

Construction Stage

  • Monitoring the construction stage in relation to design and temporary works
  • Working with designers and contractors to ensure their duties under the regulations are met.
  • CDM Compliance Audits and Inspections

Health and Safety Files

  • Complete final Health and Safety File to remain with the building once the construction phase has been completed.

In addition to our CDM 2015 statutory duties as principle designer we will also:

  • Provide a dedicated CDM 2015 consultant to each project, for the duration of each project
  • We will provide the client with a schedule as soon as we have been appointed with a detailed schedule of resources and services to help plan the design process
  • We understand that managing the health and safety aspects of a project will prove much easier by developing a good working relationship with our client
  • Making sure that we understand the brief from the start will help give us further insight into the client’s requirements
  • We will clarify the roles of individuals on the project to make sure that confusion is avoided and allows parties to distinguish between different roles
  • Leadership is an important aspect of the project and we will encourage project team meetings. This will also allow everyone to discuss and solve health and safety aspects of the project
  • We will visit the site early to get a better understanding of the site arrangements and conditions and also review the existing information you have, and follow this up with regular visits to site during the course of the project to ensure continued CDM compliance and provide a written report to our client
  • Ensure RIDDOR investigations are carried out and appropriate reporting is undertaken.
  • Where necessary, we will intervene to ensure RIDDOR compliance to protect our clients’ interests
  • Deal with telephone and email queries within 24 hours Provide telephone support to clients with regard to CDM 2015 and construction health and safety matters
