This course is designed for people at Management and Supervisory level within an organisation or in any sector who require a good grounding in Environmental Awareness. It focuses on why being aware of environmental impact and environmental management is so important, and how you can make a real difference to the environmental impact of your project.

Course Overview

It is recommended that, due to ever-changing legislation, this course should be renewed every three years.

The course includes written and practical assessments with the successful delegate receiving a certificate of attendance.

Site Environmental Management Systems (EMS)

The EMS has a number of important functions:

  • Help a company understand its environmental impact
  • Secure positive environmental outcomes
  • Reduce cost and improve efficiency
  • Implementing environmental management on site

Energy Management

We look at site practices that should be employed to reduce energy

Archaeology and Heritage

We look at the main reasons why the construction sector should address archaeology including:

Ecology

Looking at the relationship between plants, animals, people and their environments

Statutory Nuisance

We look at the different types of nuisance and how to manage it.

Water Management and Pollution Control

A construction site does not need to be next to a watercourse to cause a problem; any pollutants entering a surface water drain can end up in a watercourse miles away.

Resource Efficiency

The more efficient use of materials would make a major contribution to reducing costs and the environmental impacts of construction.

Soil Management and Contamination Control Soil Management and Contamination Control

This section identifies the process involved with soil management and the assessment and remediation of contaminated land

Waste and material Management

Waste can account for up to 5% of the total build cost. This is valuable lost profit for the project.
